I have seen baetis as early as the last week of Feb. but that was avery warm year. More typically it seemed to be second week of March again very weather dependent.
The Weather service is predicting the next two weeks to be 5-10* below norml for this time of year so I would gues you could easily add another week or so to the above.

My most memorable year of baetis fishing on spring creek came at the tail end of a colder than avg. winter. I was at the shop one morning and drove down to benner springs on the way home "just for a look". The snow covered banks looked dirty with stunned bwo duns. Of course I had none of my gear with me, so I drove the 45 minutes home to get it and back again. Stepped in the water around 1 and had an exceptional couple hours, despite the late start. I hit it the for the next three days, the second day was the best. This all occured right after we started getting some sustained warming during the day for not quite even a week I'd say. The first part of the month hadn't been warm at all. In other words, it didn't take much warm"er" weather to get it going at all (at least that year anyhow). However, I think this is a little more then, just colder then average. I guess I would call it consideralby colder then average. :frown: oh well, I guess we'll see "soon" enough :dont_know:

The following is from my notes on Spring Creek in central PA.

January 2006-- week of the 9th.
The waters are in good shape, reading about 44 degrees. The air temps at mid-day are good for this time of the year. Thursday and Friday were in the upper 50’s. Saw several BWO duns on the water and in the air. It has been reported that this is the warmest January in 100 years.
